Coin Volcano Review
3 Oaks are among the masters of the Hold and Win slot niche, and we naturally couldn’t pass on reviewing their 2024 Coin Volcano online slot. Its 3×3 layout reminded us of another Hold and Win slot, 9 Coins from Wazdan, and it’s also because neither of the two slot features regular symbols. Instead, they’re all about special symbols and bonus features, which makes for a rather unique gameplay experience!
Another thing that the Coin Volcano slot shares with 9 Coins is its audiovisual design. There’s no real theme to either game, though Coin Volcano at least has the titular volcano sitting right next to the playing field for a slight thematic touch. It’s hardly awe-inspiring stuff, though, and it’s clear that gameplay is where the focus lies for both games.
The math model of Coin Volcano offers a medium volatility level and a solid 2,551x overall max win, with the top fixed jackpot clocking in at 500x one’s bet. Its betting range then runs from £0.10 to £60 per spin, which should suit players with all kinds of bankrolls. Finally, the theoretical RTP of Coin Volcano is 95.66%, which is below the current industry average of 96%. Given that we’ve mentioned 9 Coins already, we feel that it’s fair to add that Coin Volcano underperforms a bit compared with that game, and that it does so in essentially all regards. Most importantly, the 9 Coins slot has a higher 96.06% RTP, and its top fixed jackpot is the same as in Coin Volcano.

Coin Volcano Slot Features
As we’ve already said at the very beginning of this review, the Coin Volcano slot comes with no regular pay symbols. Instead, there are just special symbols for players to care about, and they all come in the form of Coins.
To get to the Hold and Win feature, you have to land any 3 special symbols on the middle row. To that end, you can take advantage of Sticky Coins that stay on the board until a feature trigger and then get transferred to it as well.
The actual Hold and Win feature then comes with your usual bunch of 3 respins that you reset with each landed symbol and that continue until you either run out of respins or fill the entire board with symbols and collect them. While regular Coins award 1x-4x your bet, there are also three Jackpot Coins that pay out 10x, 20x, or 50x your bet, respectively.
Filling the entire board with symbols will then net you the Grand Jackpot, which is worth 500x your bet, and you can also spice things up with Mystery symbols that freely transform into other symbols.
The random Coin Collect feature can show up at any point of the game for instant wins, and you can also land random Volcano Multipliers that can provide your wins with sweet win multipliers.
What’s more, you can also trigger the Ultra Bonus Game with guaranteed Volcano Multipliers out of the blue.
Finally, there are two Buy Bonus options that can get you straight to the game’s bonus features for a set fee. Buying the Hold and Win feature outright will set you back by 30x your bet, and you can also purchase it as the Ultra Bonus Game with more Volcano Multipliers for 75x your bet.

Review Summary
To sum things up, it’s pretty clear that 3 Oaks drew some inspiration from Wazdan’s 9 Coins slot when they were designing Coin Volcano. There are many similarities between the two games, and it’s almost eerie, really. Unfortunately for 3 Oaks, though, the 9 Coins slot edges Coin Volcano in most departments, and we like its gameplay and math model a fair bit more. It’s a bit of a shame, really, but we have to give credit where credit is due.
Pros
- 3×3 Hold and Win slot with focus on gameplay
- No base game distractions
Cons
- Worse than Wazdan’s 9 Coins, despite the similarities
- Underperforming math model
