Black Wolf Review
If you take a look at 3 Oaks, it’s easy to see that they are a company that’s almost all about Hold and Win slots. We’ve already seen the Wolf Saga slot from them, and it’s probably the success of that slot that inspired the Black Wolf release. It’s surprisingly similar in many regards, but it has a bit more meat on the bones, so to say. So, let’s take a closer look at what you can find in this 5×4 slot with 25 paylines!
Thematically, Black Wolf comes with a gorgeous forest environment, and it’s actually a fairly atmospheric slot as well. There aren’t a lot of animations, but the symbol designs are detailed, and we especially like how the high-paying symbols look. All in all, it’s a pleasant package overall, and one that is impossible to criticize.
Black Wolf Slot – Reels Screen
Mathematically, Black Wolf is a medium volatility slot, and its Grand jackpot is worth 1,000x your bet. That’s not particularly exciting, but it makes for a good experience for players that aren’t into high risk high reward action. The betting range is geared towards casual players, too. While the slot’s min bet is £0.25, the most that you can risk per spin is £25. Unfortunately, the theoretical RTP of Black Wolf is only 95.65%, which is nothing to write home about.
Black Wolf Slot Features
There are 8 pay symbols in Black Wolf, and they are once again split fairly between low-paying symbols and high-paying symbols. The game’s low-paying symbols are card ranks from Jacks to Aces, and you’ll get 2x your bet if you find a five-of-a-kind combination of any of them. The high-paying symbols are better, featuring owls, eagles, lynxes, and elk. Elk are worth the most, paying 20x your bet for a full combination.
Pay symbols aren’t the only symbols that you can find in the slot, of course. Aside from them, there are also Black Wolf Wilds, Huntress Scatters, Boost symbols, and Moon Bonus symbols. It’s all pretty similar to the previously mentioned Wolf Saga slot, in fact, and Black Wolf Wilds even come with their own payout values, which are equal to the payout values of elk symbols.
Black Wolf Slot – Hold and Win Feature
If you find a Boost symbol alongside at least one Moon Bonus symbol, you’ll trigger the Boost feature, which will immediately collect all Moon Bonus symbols in view. Note that Boost symbols can appear only on the middle reel during the base game and during free spins, though they can appear anywhere on the board during the Hold and Win feature.
To trigger the Hold and Win feature, you have to find at least 6 Moon Bonus symbols in view (or at least 5 Moon Bonus symbols alongside a Boost symbol). You’ll get 3 respins to start with, and the tally will be reset with each new symbol that lands. The feature will go on until you run out of respins or fill the entire board with symbols.
If you fill the entire board with symbols, you’ll get the Grand jackpot, which is worth 1,000x your bet. There are smaller jackpots as well, called Mini, Minor, and Major. You can get to them via Jackpot Moon Bonus symbols, and they are worth 20x, 50x, and 100x your bet, respectively. You can also land special Mystery Moon Bonus symbols, which will transform into random Jackpot Moon Bonus symbols at the end of the Hold and Win feature.
Last but not least, there’s the Free Spins feature that you can launch via 3 Huntress Scatters. You’ll get 8 free spins, and you can get 8 extra free spins by finding another set of Huntress Scatters during any free spin. Crucially, there are more Boost symbols and Moon Bonus symbols on the reels during the Free Spins feature, which makes it easier to get instant wins and to trigger the Hold and Win feature.

Review Summary
When all is said and done, Black Wolf is an improvement on Wolf Saga, and we’re happy that 3 Oaks didn’t go for a carbon copy of that game gameplay-wise. Everything is somewhat juicier here, even though we aren’t too impressed by the slot’s somewhat subpar RTP. In any case, we’re happy to recommend the Black Wolf slot to all fans of the Hold and Win niche.
